The Engineering Challenge

The client's existing PostgreSQL-based analytics pipeline was locking tables under high ingestion volumes (15k+ events/sec), causing queries on the client-facing dashboard to timeout and latency to exceed 12 seconds.

System Architecture & Decisions

To solve this without creating maintenance overhead or operational fragility, we implemented the following technical pillars:

Decoupled ingest layer using lightweight Go microservices receiving webhooks into a partitioned Kafka cluster.
ClickHouse columnar database configured for real-time aggregation and millisecond analytical queries over billions of rows.
Next.js App Router frontend with WebSockets and Canvas charting to render smooth 60fps real-time transaction graphs.
Redis caching layer for heavy aggregate metrics and automated query deduplication.

The Delivered Solution

Engineered an event-driven architecture that separates ingestion from querying. Built a unified Next.js dashboard with virtualized data tables, interactive time-range selectors, and instant CSV/Parquet export capabilities.
